It’s cocktail hour over at Hitch Manor, and we’re rolling onto day 2 of the Drinking Songs list. I’ve been decorating for the holidays all day and just stopped for a cup of Christmas cheer, so I thought I’d slide musical cocktail your way. It is Saturday night, after all! Next up is an entry from a bunch of west coast swingers who bring a bouncy rhythm to their boozing.
Big Bad VooDoo Daddy – You And Me And The Bottle Makes Three Tonight
During the mid-90s, swing music was pretty huge on the west coast. If you saw the movie Swingers, you know who Big Bad VooDoo Daddy is. They played a set in one of the club scenes that included “You And Me And The Bottle Makes Three Tonight,” and three of their songs were featured on the soundtrack. Swingers* propelled them from self-published act into a record deal with Capitol. They released this song on their second album, Americana Deluxe, in 1998.
Big Bad VooDoo Daddy came of age with The Squirrel Nut Zippers and the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. I have a deep soft spot for big band and swing music, so I was overjoyed to have current artists turning out some fun music. “You And Me And The Bottle Makes Three Tonight” is one of my faves from that era, and I certainly couldn’t go without including on a list of drinking tunes.
