The Wicked Hitch

Radio Hitch | December Means Drinking

Welcome to December! This month, we’re going to be going through my favorite drinking songs. Yeah, yeah, I know it’s Christmas. Don’t worry, you’ll get your holiday music playlists. Santa Hitch always comes through with a bag of musical cheer! But you’ll have to wait on that a bit. Playlistery of the holiday variety takes some time. Look for those around December 15th.

In the meantime, I put together 31 of my favorite songs about getting soused. These are in no particular order, but I have deep love for all of them. I’ll be spinning one a day until New Year’s Eve. If you’re like me and spend a fair amount of your December getting all lit up like a Christmas Tree, these are the tunes that’ll help you along.

Nat “King” Cole Trio – Scotchin’ With The Soda

This is the first song on the list, mainly because I’ve had it stuck in my head since Thanksgiving. But also because Nat “King” Cole is number 2 in my pantheon of musical influences. That’s another story for another time. The important thing here is the drinking.

“Scotchin’ With The Soda” was recorded by the King Cole Trio in 1941 for Decca records, and released as the B-side of “Slow Down.” It’s easily the bounciest tune ever written about the pleasures of drinking Scotch. If December makes you want to drink to forget, this little number will sure get you in a festive mood to carry out that mission:

“Have you had your scotch, your scotch today? It will chase your blues away!”

What’s not to love?

Without further ado, here’s The King Cole Trio to kick off the December of Drinking!
