Hey hey hey, it’s Halloween Day! We’ve been counting down the Top 20 creepy songs in anticipation of Halloween, and we’ve finally arrived at Number 1! This tune is the always the first song I think of at this time of year, with it’s ominous bass line, snarly guitar, and break of slurping sounds.
It’s vampire time!
Number 1: Concrete Blonde – Bloodletting (The Vampire Song)
Concrete Blonde first came into being in the 80s, releasing their eponymous debut album in 1986. Their follow up album, Bloodletting, came out in 1990 and was their most commercially successful album. Bloodletting as an album is mostly dark and moody, but the best performing single was the relatively innocuous “Joey,” which I never particularly cared for.
Oh, but this song. This song curled up real nice in a recess of my brain and refused to budge. With it’s references to bloodstains, walking dead, New Orleans, and oh, yes, vampires, it was clearly influenced by Interview With a Vampire by Anne Rice. Johnette Napolitano’s voice and bass have seen me through many dark times, so I couldn’t go down a creepy song countdown without this one.
Number 1 on this year’s Halloween Countdown- here’s “Bloodletting (The Vampire Song)” by Concrete Blonde.
Happy Halloween, darlings!
