Welcome back to the Halloween Countdown! I know some of you were lamenting the lack of “Werewolves of London” on the list. Well, I have some good news for you, Number 7 is a much creepier song about becoming a wolf. Double bonus: this track contains one of my favorite creepy lyrics of all time, “Baby doll/ I recognize/ you’re a hideous thing inside…”

Number 7: TV on the Radio – Wolf Like Me

TV on the Radio is a band out of Brooklyn that’s been around since the early aughts. They were critically acclaimed from their very first full-length release, Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes, which was awarded the Shortlist Music Prize in 2004.

Their second album, Return to Cookie Mountain, did even better, and was included in multiple Top 10 lists for 2006. “Wolf Like Me” was the lead single and earned the band it’s highest position on the charts, at #37.

I first saw these guys live in 2004, at The Empty Bottle in Chicago. I only knew one of their tunes at that time, but they quickly won me over. Since then I’ve seen them at much larger venues, including Lollapalooza, and they’ve always put on an amazing show. If you get a chance to see them, go! The soaring harmonies and the sheer musicianship of these guys are well worth it.

Here’s TV on The Radio with “Wolf Like Me.” Enjoy!
